The Summer Season: What to Expect

The cricket season at Pinner runs from April through September, with most matches played on Saturday afternoons and some midweek fixtures. Understanding what to expect will help you prepare and enjoy your first match day.

Match Schedule and Formats

We participate in local league competitions, typically playing 40-over or 20-over format matches. These formats offer a good balance between proper cricket and maintaining a social atmosphere. Matches usually start at 1:30 pm or 2:00 pm on Saturdays and conclude by early evening.

Pre-Match Preparation

Arrive at the ground at least 45 minutes before the scheduled start. This gives you time to change, warm up, and discuss tactics with your team. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as matches can be physically demanding. Ensure your equipment is in good condition and you have appropriate sun protection.

During the Match

If you're batting, you'll wait in the pavilion until it's your turn to bat. When batting, you'll face bowling from the opposition's best bowlers. If you're fielding, you'll take your position and concentrate on the game. Communication with teammates is crucial—calling "mine" for catches and encouraging one another.

The Break and Lunch

In longer formats, there's typically a break for lunch or light refreshments. This is a good time to hydrate and refuel. The social aspect really shines here, as players from both teams often chat and relax together.

After the Match

Following the game, both teams gather for post-match refreshments. This is when the real cricket club spirit emerges—friendships are made, stories are shared, and you'll feel part of something special. Many players stay for a drink and socialise well into the evening.

Getting Involved

Don't worry if you make mistakes—everyone does. Focus on enjoying yourself and learning. Our teammates are supportive, and every match is an opportunity to improve. Whether you play brilliantly or struggle, you're welcome back the following week.
